With Deep run recently sending students off to college with cross country scholarships, the team strives to continue their dynasty as a unit.
The team has put amazing effort in all of these races, resulting in many first place victories. So far, the wildcats have taken home many first place victories in the 2017 season.
The boys cross country varsity team is led by seniors Matthias Cannon, Jonathan Graff, Zach Levet, and junior Jake Ferro. Girl captains are senior Aideen Canning and junior Lily Snow. As their season continues, they wish to assert their dominance in the VHSL. This season, there are many new faces that will help them bring home the trophy.
“There have been ups and downs, but it is always fun seeing the younger and newer boys and girls figure things out.  They start to understand what it takes to get better and stronger. Once the season ends, we can really reflect back, and it is always amazing to realize how much has happened in just a few months.” Cross country coach, Drew Spicer, said. “As our wildcats are about to enter the post season, our runners have to stay concentrated.”
“Our team is constantly preparing; preparation is something we focus on and discuss frequently.  The day or two prior to a meet, we will usually recover with an ice bath and possibly some lighter or easier days.  The team will discuss goals and race plans for the meet.  Finally, it is important for the team to take care of themselves through nutrition, hydration, sleep, and rest,” Spicer said.
No matter how the season concludes, the runners are proud of their team and their successful season.
