We welcome marathon runner Mrs. Elizabeth Mayo among our ranks this school year. She serves as a ninth grade health and physical education instructor.
Mayo moved to Henrico County at the age of seven. She attended school here and earned her Bachelor’s of Business Administration (BBA) from Radford University.
She first worked in the corporate world and then became a personal trainer. An avid runner, she successfully completed a full marathon in Louisville, Kentucky, that went through Church Hill Downs (the famous horse racetrack).
Mayo moved back to Henrico after living in High Point, North Carolina, for the past four years. Her husband teaches in Hanover County, and the couple have three children: eleven year old Vaughan, ten year old Emma, and six year old Aidan. They’ve also adopted an adorable miniature pinscher from a shelter last year named Reese.
This may be her first year teaching, but Mayo is ready to tackle her new career.
“I love working with kids which is what led me to switching careers. I’m passionate about fitness and helping others learn how to live a healthy lifestyle,” Mayo said. “Being a HPE teacher was the perfect blend of teaching fitness and working with young people!”
When she’s not working, Mayo enjoys being outside, spending time with her family, and traveling to new places. So far, she’s visited England, Scotland, Italy, Switzerland, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Canada. She’s also a celebrity magnet – she’s met Drew and Jonathan Scott from the HGTV show “Property Brothers” and Mario Lopez from “Saved by the Bell.”
