The gymnastics team returns after a strong season that included a second place finish at Regionals.  The team will get a boost from getting senior Phoebe Lake back for a full season.  After going to state’s her freshman and sophomore years, her junior season was derailed by illness.  Despite only competing in the first two meets of the season, she still showed up to meets to cheer on her team.  This year, she hopes to continue this leadership as well as make it back to states.

“I hope to lead my team to the best of my ability and to make my routines stronger in order to win regionals and go to states as a team,” Lake said.

During meets, Lake competes in all of the events.  She has gone to states twice for floor, but her favorite event is the beam.

“I compete in all events.  My favorite event has always been beam because I love the mental toughness it requires to perform it well, even in front of many people. It is a very rewarding event when it goes my way, but it can also be very frustrating if it doesn’t, which is one of the many reasons why I love this event,” Lake said.

In her final year, she is most looking forward to seeing how the team works together and working closely with her teammates.  She enjoys being with the team, which is why she will miss spending time with the team.

“I will miss the time spent with my team the most because we become so close through the sport, and I’ve been doing gymnastics with some of them for almost my whole life,” Lake said.

With much potential, the team’s primary goal is to win regionals and compete at states.
