In the State Championship Meet on Nov. 13, the cross country team made sure that they would not leave empty-handed. The girls team became state champions after a first place finish in the Class 5 State Championship at Great Meadow Park. Head Coach Drew Spicer said that the team’s togetherness and commitment were the biggest factors for their success.

“The girls stuck together all year and were focused on their big team goal,” Spicer said.

The team’s successful run to the state championship didn’t come without some hiccups throughout the season. In fact, Spicer said that the team’s biggest struggle was living up to the high standards that they had set for themselves.

The girls were extremely resilient and tough all year, and stayed steady and composed through the ups and downs that occurred during the season.

“One challenge was certainly the expectations, especially as the season progresses,” Spicer said. “The girls handled the expectations and pressure really well, and had fun along the way.”

With how challenging of a season this was for the cross country team, their state championship win says a lot about the team’s durability. Spicer said that the win showed the team’s ability to battle through tough times.

“It is never an easy feat to win, especially in a grueling season,” Spicer said. “The girls were extremely resilient and tough all year, and stayed steady and composed through the ups and downs that occurred during the season.”

With the cross country season now coming to an end, the girls team will look to defend their title as state champions next season.
