Wildcat Spotlight: Hoa Pham

This school year a new biology teacher, Hoa Pham, joined the staff after working at Thomas Dale High School in Chesterfield. Pham likes the structure and engagement at Deep Run because she can do a lot more activities with her class.

“Most students are very motivated. It’s easier to do more class activities and go into depth with the content I am teaching because of the resources we have. Plus, all of the encouragement I have been receiving from the school has been a huge game changer,” Pham said.

Pham searched for a career she was passionate for a while before deciding that teaching was her passion.

“I was so ready to do some form of medicine. Then I looked back into a lot of the extra stuff I did outside of school and everything was related to tutoring, teaching,” Pham said.

While she has received a great deal of support, there have still been some challenges. Students turning in late work has caused stress during the first quarter for Pham.

“It was so hard trying to come up with lesson plans while putting in late grades because I am trying to be flexible with my students, but I think some take my kindness for weakness,” Pham said.

Pham is a VCU graduate. She has a bachelor’s degree in biology, and is attending the University of Richmond right now for her masters degree in teaching.

In her free time, she likes rock calming, volleyball, and basketball for fun. Pham looks forward to her future here as well as expanding her curriculum into science technology.
