The fourth season of “Stranger Things” was released on May 27, and is sure to be at the top of the list for many students’ summer viewing. Although this season has been long delayed, it is confirmed the first volume of the new season will release on time, giving “Stranger Things” fans five brand new episodes and new characters. One of these is Dungeons and Dragons’ Vecna, the newest villain in the show, and one sure to bring an interesting twist to the plot of the show.

Looking back at the previous season, we know that Russians have come to Hawkins to figure out the secret to the Upside Down, while Steve, Maya, and Dustin learn more about the Russian operation underneath Starcourt Mall. Joyce and Hopper are caught up with Alexei, a Russian scientist. Both parties are trying to figure out the Russians’ goal, and how to close the door to the Upside Down for good.

However, unbeknownst to them the Mind Flayer has possessed Billy and is using him to take control of the people in Hawkins. The Season 3 finale wrapped up with the large spider-like creature being defeated, but not without losses. Billy ends up dying at the hands of the monster, Eleven somehow loses her powers, and Hopper seems to sacrifice himself for the group.

Here is what we know going into the fourth season. Hopper is confirmed to be alive in the teaser released by Netflix and seems to be living in Russia, despite appearing to sacrifice himself to close the door to the Upside Down. Our other main characters, particularly Eleven, Will, Jonathan, and Joyce, are finding it hard to adjust to living in California. As mentioned earlier, the newest, and arguably the scariest villain in the series, Vecna has been confirmed in the teaser. Despite many fans’ wishes, Billy does not seem to be returning to season four, although many speculate that he is actually Vecna.

The Duffer brothers, producers and creators of the show, seem to have a lot in store for viewers; most of the information concerning the show has been released, but there are sure to be many more unexpected twists coming in these first five episodes. The previous seasons have been extremely popular, and the expectations for season four are just as high, if not higher. Fans are sure to be waiting on the edge of their seats for the second volume of Season 4 episodes.
