Rapper Drake released his eighth studio album “For All The Dogs” on Oct. 6, 2023. The album includes 23 tracks that consist of some hit singles such as “Slime You Out,” “Calling For You,” and “Virginia Beach.” On Nov. 17, he dropped the third entry in his Scary Hours collection “For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition” that added 6 more tracks. Drake is originally from Toronto, Canada, but he has made his mark in the music industry around the world.
Drake is known to drop at least one album each year, so when fans found out he was releasing new music it didn’t come as a surprise. Before the album came out, Drake revealed that he had written a poetry book entitled “Titles Ruin Everything.” When he released the book, he made another announcement that he made an album to go along with the book which would be entitled “For All The Dogs.”
The album consists of different features such as SZA, Yeat, J. Cole, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Bad Bunny, and many others. Although the album has a very wide range in artists, Drake has great chemistry with all of them. His song with J. Cole, “First Person Shooter,” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, which allowed Drake to tie with Michael Jackson for the most number one hits by a male solo artist.
Like a lot of other Drake albums, “For All The Dogs” received a lot of negative reviews. According to Luke Morgan Britton, who wrote an album review for NME ,“For All The Dogs” was “painfully mid” and it didn’t make Drake “reach the heights that we know he’s capable of.” According to Shirley Ju from The Source magazine, a lot of the things that Drake raps about on the album are “played out.” While some of the themes in his songs may resemble each other, this doesn’t take away from the fact that his popularity has skyrocketed throughout his career. Despite all of the critics, “For All The Dogs” became Drake’s 13th U.S. number one album.
This album is severely underrated, as it consists of many tracks where Drake’s flow is unmatched by a lot of other rappers, as well as amazing beats. “For All The Dogs” is also very versatile; there are songs that make you hype and energetic like “Rich Baby Daddy,” as well other songs that put you in your feelings and make you want to sing your heart out like “Bahamas Promises.” All of the songs on the album are extremely catchy, so it can be easy for them to be stuck in your head.
This album is going to be a classic for years to come. “For All The Dogs” offers an emotional yet enjoyable experience that creates a rollercoaster of emotions for listeners. Anyone can find a song that they enjoy in Drake’s extensive discography, as he displays a large amount of versatility in his music.
