In all the ways that 2024 could’ve started, controversy was what came first.
The January 26 release of “Hiss,” a new song by Meghan Thee Stallion, has resulted in disagreement with fellow rapper Nicki Minaj due to the content of the song’s lyrics.
In the song, Stallion mentions “Megan’s Law.” Megan’s Law is a federal law in the United States that requires law enforcement to make information public regarding registered sex offenders.
Minaj inferred that the song was referring to her husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender in the state of California.
After the great response from fans online to “Hiss,” Minaj began to address the drama on Instagram and X. When sharing new music with her fans on X, Minaj shared the lyrics to “Big Foot,” a new song she was releasing.
Many fans feel that “Big Foot” is a reference to rapper Tory Lanez shooting Stallion in the foot in 2020. According to Forbes, Stallion is healed now from this traumatic event, however, she still experiences pains in her foot.
Minaj’s fanbase, or the so-called “Barbz,” has taken the conflict too far. Stallion’s mother, Holly Pete, died of brain cancer in 2019, and the information regarding the location of her grave was released by the Barbz.
What started as petty beef between two rappers became more serious as the Barbz threatened to vandalize the gravesite of Stallion’s mother.
In response to the release of the grave location, the security measures at the cemetery have been heightened.
Minaj hasn’t spoken out about the behavior of her fans, which leads people to believe that she is in support of the actions of her fanbase.
No evidence or response from Stallion confirmed that “Hiss” was about Minaj’s husband. Minaj only assumed that it was about her husband and jumped at the opportunity to respond in a very negative way.
Even though Stallion was the one who started the ongoing controversy, it is clear that Minaj has taken it too far and knows no limit when it comes to this feud.
