The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) hosted a flower sale in February so students could send carnations to their friends, partners, or even as secret admirers. Carnations were distributed during Wildcat Connection on Valentine’s Day, when JROTC members walked delivered carnations to students in their advisory classes.
Each color of the flower represented a different message for their recipients. The white flower represented friendship, the red signified a romantic relationship, and the pink stood for a secret admirer.
Upon receiving a white carnation from her friend, junior Addison Mannion was pleasantly surprised by the flower delivery.
“When I received a carnation, I was shocked because I didn’t think people really sent them, unless it was for relationships. However, I got a white flower from my friend, and I thought it was funny because I was surprised, but it was also very nice and I appreciated it,” Mannion said.
Junior Meneja Gautam received three carnations, which she believes were sent from her friends as a friendly joke.
“I received three carnations, two of them were red and one was pink. I think they were from my friends because the red ones had funny pick up lines on them that related to some of our inside jokes,” Gautam said.
She felt that even though it was funny, her friends’ intent was sincere.
“I was so happy when I saw the carnations and the cute messages that came with them since that meant my friends were thinking of me,” Gautam said.
Wildcats proved that friends are the best Valentines after all.
