Every year, two teams and millions of fans come together to indulge in an enticing football game called the Super Bowl. With every fan comes a different and unique way to celebrate this day, including our own students.
Even if students’ favorite teams aren’t in the match-up, they often find a team to root for in the end temporarily. This year, a certain world-famous pop singer seemed to influence fandom.
“I didn’t like either of the teams, but I had to pick the 49ers because I hate Taylor Swift and the Chiefs,” freshman Julia Coulter said.
However, people don’t always watch the Super Bowl for the football. Often there is a large attraction to the entertainment aspect of the game.
“I don’t really pay attention to the game. I watch the Super Bowl for the ads and the halftime show,” sophomore Sydney Cyrus said. “I feel like it’s really entertaining, especially the halftime show last year when Rihanna did it.”
For others, the draw is the freedom to eat tailgate-style foods.
“[I] watch with our neighbors and have classic food like wings,” sophomore Amelia Payne said.
Senior Jack Ullmann counts wings as a favorite too.
“My favorite Super Bowl snacks are wings and a 7 layer dip my dad makes,” Ullmann said.
Whether they’re watching for the football, food, or entertainment, some students value the tradition for the time spent in good company.
“I usually celebrate with my parents, not a party, but more of a quality time we can spend together with the game,” sophomore Isabella Cruz said.
The game isn’t simply a game. The game can also be a time to bond with your family and friends to watch your favorite figures perform. Some are already counting down the days to next year’s event.
