One Lunch is a time when students have the freedom to both socialize and eat. Each student has their preference for where they sit at lunch depending on whether they like to be in a crowded place, a quiet environment, or a bit of both by just walking around the halls. Undeniably, whether a student has a preference or not, the majority of students just go wherever their friends are.
“I sit upstairs near the tables […] because my friends sit here and it’s open,” freshman Anshi Chowdhoruy said.
The draw of time with friends even leads some students to spend an hour where they dislike sitting.
“I sit at the lunch table. I hate it. It stinks in there. But I’m there because all my friends sit there,” sophomore Kavya Shah said
Although most students sit with their friends during lunch, they all share different opinions and views on the big question: which spot is truly the best?
“I think upstairs on the picnic benches where the seniors sit would be the best spot. Or maybe the senior courtyard because it’s a privilege only one grade level [seniors] get, so there would be less people, and it would be nice to get outside during the day,” freshman Maya Burnette said.
Another student thinks that classrooms are more convenient
“I think the best spot to sit would be a quiet classroom with little people because it’s so much calmer and I won’t have to feel like I’m screaming to talk to my friends,” sophomore Meilong Chen said.
Other students agree that classrooms allow for a better, quieter environment.
“[The] best spot is absolutely one of the Spanish classrooms because it’s always open and pretty chill,” junior Liam Murphy said.
Some students note the opportunity to be productive in teacher classrooms as well.
“I think the best spot to sit for lunch is a teacher’s room because then you can talk with your friends or if you need to do work you can focus,” senior Lainey Rivera said.
So where is the best spot for lunch? Although sitting in the cafeteria gives you quick access to utensils and snacks, students are also quick to leave right after they eat. The library is a great place to study, but it’s not exactly an ideal “lunch spot” when you aren’t allowed to eat while you’re there. The senior courtyard, upstairs senior tables, and the hallways seem to be student favorites. However, the spot that remains champion is the classrooms. It was the most chosen spot by the students and, therefore, rightly deserves the title of the “Best One Lunch Spot.”
