Almost every day after school, various art students’ work is projected onto the front windows of the school. Art teacher Carey McCray and other art students are in charge of the projection of the artwork.
“Right now, we are projecting only on weeknights because it has to run overnight. We aren’t projecting any artwork on weekends because I am a little nervous of running a hot projector all weekend,” McCray said. “The projector takes some time to set up and take down so it’s not running every day.”
McCray had this idea to project students’ artwork years ago when the school newly opened.
“At this school, there are so many great spaces. Those stairwells are amazing, and I don’t think any other school in this county has a space like that,” McCray said. “One year, we were thinking about hanging a sculpture from the beams.”
There are a variety of students who are featured in the projection to highlight Youth Art Month. Not only are images displayed in the projection, but videos are as well.
“In my digital media classes, we do a lot of motion graphics projects that I would love to showcase in the projection,” McCray said.
To see the projections, community members could visit the front windows during weekdays after school hours, with best viewing after dark.
