With over 2,000 students, everyone at Deep Run had some sort of plans for spring break. Regardless if they were home, a couple states away, or out of the country, it seemed everyone tried to make the most of spring break.
Senior Aryan Verma felt that his trip to Aruba was ‘life changing’.
“When you wake up at 7 a.m. to watch the sunrise with a beach view from the deck of the hotel, it’s a feeling of peace that’s overwhelming,” Verma said.
While Aruba itself is a tiny island, around 15 times smaller than the state of Rhode Island, Verma highlighted various things around the capital city of Oranjestad that he thought was unique.
“I saw chameleons and flamingos roaming around the streets, and this place was like the California Lighthouse which I thought was interesting,” Verma said.
Senior Soren Doucette stayed a little closer to home, visiting Austin, Texas for his spring break. While there, Doucette extended his break to watch the Eclipse directly in the path of totality.
“I got to attend this once in a lifetime music and science event called the ‘The Texas Solar Eclipse,’ where around 60,000 people were camping and looking at this rare occurrence,” said Soren. “It was mostly broken clouds during the day of the Eclipse. Very hot during the day, cold during the night, and clear skies the day before.”
Going a bit farther west to Hawaii, senior Akil Gurram had an “eye opening experience with jaw-dropping views.”
“I had thought Hawaii was just known for its beaches, but I was genuinely surprised by the natural beauty of the state like the waterfalls and mountains,” Gurram said.
After traveling from Honolulu to Maui, Gurram experienced a bit of travel misfortune.
“I was sitting down with my phone on my lap, and then when I got up, my phone slipped through the crack in the thing and fell nine stories and hit a rock before dropping into an artificial waterfall,” Gurram said.
Despite the unfortunate end to a promising vacation, Gurram did, however, get some impressive photos of the beach using his dad’s phone instead.
With so many interesting and unique perspectives to those who went to some cool places this break, there’s plenty of students that spent their break in some really interesting places.
