The Deep Run Dance Team, widely known for performing during football and basketball home games, has recently hired a new coach, Carlee Moeller. This is her first time back in a coaching role since she first led a team in high school.
“This is my first year [coaching the school’s dance team]. I was a captain of my drill team back in 1998, and that was the last time I taught a dance team,” Moeller said. “I danced three years in high school and cheered for one, then I danced for two years at the University of Idaho.”
Like their coach, the majority of dancers on the team this year are new, so their main focus at the moment is building a team bond and connecting through their shared interest in dance. Members of the team agreed that they’re looking forward to building relationships with one another this year.
“(I’m looking forward to) friendship and being part of the team,” freshman Allie Jones said.
Team captain senior Sathiya Desai thinks Moeller is a powerful asset for the team because of her willingness to listen to team members.
“She’s wonderful,” Desai said. “She’s taking suggestions about choreography, so hopefully we have some more upbeat stuff this year.”
Moeller has big plans for the team’s choreography and future performances. Enjoy the team’s performance at the first home game on Sept. 20, 2024.
