Jessica Taggart, former math teacher and testing coordinator for surrounding middle schools, has taken on the role as the new Assistant Principal at Deep Run. Although Taggart was sure she wanted to stay in the surrounding area of her previous middle school positions, she was unsure whether or not she was going to seek the role as Assistant Principal this year.
“I wasn’t sure if I was going to go for Assistant Principal this year or if I was going to wait, but I knew that once an opportunity presented itself, I had to take it,” Taggart said.
Taggart’s previous position as a testing coordinator was a pivotal role in determining if she wanted to make the move to apply for an administrative leadership position.
“In my previous position as testing coordinator, it was more of an administrative role rather than a teaching role, and I really liked being at the table where the decisions were made and trying to make a big impact on the students, and I knew that I could do that as Assistant Principal,” Taggart said.
After determining that she wanted to apply for a leadership role at another school, Taggart decided to enter the county’s hiring process.
“The way the county does [the hiring process] is you apply for any positions that are open at all high schools, and I knew Deep Run was open, and I knew it was a great school,” Taggart said. “I knew I wanted to stay in the [Short Pump] community because I knew a portion of the community from my positions at Holman and Pocahantas Middle Schools.”
Having previously come from Holman and Pocahantas Middle Schools, Taggart is looking forward to the high school experience and milestones.
“I’m excited for all the high school events like the football games, chorus concerts, and graduation,” Taggart said. “I’m also very excited to see the development of students as they become young adults after high school.”
Taggart hopes to have an amazing year in her new high school experience.
