From sparkling pink bows to barely there body suits, Jojo Siwa has always been in the spotlight, but recently it’s been for all the wrong reasons.
Jojo Siwa was thrown into the public eye because of the insanely popular show, Dance Moms. Siwa first appeared on Dance Moms during Season 4, 2015, and hasn’t left the spotlight since. She was known on the show for her sassy demeanor and spunky personality. Garnering fans, she decided to pursue a music career after leaving “Dance Moms” in 2016, which led to her hit single, “Boomerang”. She dropped more music, but slowly fell off a couple of years later as her original fans grew older. Despite this, she continued posting on her You tube Channel and releasing singles.
Just when people were starting to forget about her internet era, she dropped a song, along with a music video called Karma. When the music video was released on April 5, chaos ensued among netizens. The music video showed Siwa cursing in her song, inappropriately actors, and completely flipping the script of her career. She went from child friendly to 18+ seemingly overnight.
Siwa started doing interviews with different media networks. In one interview at the iHeart Radio Music Awards, she stated, “No one has made this dramatic of a change yet. No one has made, in my generation, this extreme of a switch, and I am the first of the generation. It is very scary. But someone’s got to do it.”
Comments like these and other more 18+ statements caused an uproar among people watching from home, leading to people making fun of her evolution. A lot of her statements sounded “ignorant,” “stupid,” and “corny,” according to commenters under Jojo Siwa related posts on social media.
It wasn’t just her words though; her actions had a huge role in people’s discomfort. Before she dropped her first comeback single, she teased her song with a dance she created, one which people found quite amusing. on various social media platforms. She also started the internet to blow up after during her performance at the G Flip concert, where she started doing inappropriate gestures to one of the people on stage.
People also criticized the way she dressed due to her new makeup styles and clothing options. Netizens just didn’t seem to like the new version of Jojo Siwa. Despite this, she kept teasing her new single, “Guilty” Pleasure which later dropped in July 2024. She, again, used the same tactic of dropping the choreo that goes with the song, garnering the same reaction as she got with her song “Karma”.
Despite all the criticism, many enjoy Siwa’s new image, saying that she’s turned a new leaf and that “her and her team know what she’s doing,” said by commenters under her posts.
Many wonder, is this just a publicity stunt or is it truly her new image?
