Better2gether RVA is a local non-profit organization that supports families who have children with complex medical illnesses. This non-profit has provided different resources, mentorships, and support since 2017. Better2gether also supports families by participating in many different volunteer and donation drives.
Similarly, Deep Run’s student chapter of Better2gether is now hosting a stuffed animal drive to donate stuffed animals to children with complex diseases. This drive allows students to donate stuffed animals that are new or used and in good condition. The goal is to offer these stuffed animals as comforting gifts that could be used to make these children smile during tough times.
“All of the stuffed animals will be donated to Better2gether RVA where they will be distributed to kids with rare and complex diseases who often have to stay in the hospital for long periods of time,” club president and senior Emma Friedlander said. “The donations will be happening all of March and it is not limited to just club members.”
The local organization suggested that the school club host the donation drive, but the Better2gether officers were more than willing to get involved.
“We do all of our volunteer work in the hopes of bringing some joy into the life of the families and the children that are dealing with serious illnesses,” club sponsor Suzzanne Davey said.
In addition to the current stuffed animal drive, Better2together has volunteered and hosted donation drives in the past.
“We have done different things like book, toy, and game drives along with volunteering at different fundraising events,” club vice president and senior Gina Yang said.
