The start of the new school year brought many changes, including the addition of the new associate principal, Christopher Clement, to the administration team. Clement replaced Dr. Brandon Farrar, who took the position of assistant principal at Hanover High School.
Prior to transitioning into the administrative side of education, Clement taught social studies for 16 years at both the middle school and high school level.
“I taught World History I and World History II, but my favorite class I taught was AP European History,” Clement said.
Helping students was a main factor in pursuing education for Clement, as he not only taught multiple subjects but also coached multiple sports.
“I like to be around students, not only in the classroom, but also outside the classroom setting, which is why I was drawn to coaching,” Clement said. “When I was at Glen Allen High School, I coached football, girls’ basketball, and baseball. At Moody Middle School, I coached track, basketball, and football.”
While Clement enjoyed the classroom and coaching experience and the interactions between teachers and students, he was ready for the challenge of becoming an administrator, which he began as an Assistant Principal at Glen Allen High School. As a Jaguar for the last 14 years on the teaching, coaching, and administrative side, Clement was ready for a change of pace and pursued becoming a part of the Deep Run Wildcat family.
“I chose Deep Run because of the amazing reputation of the students here, the teachers, and the administration team. I’ve always heard how dedicated and amazing Deep Run students were and how achieving they were,” Clement said.
One Lunch was also an interesting factor to Clement, as Deep Run is the only school in the area that offers an hour of lunch and study time.
“I love the idea of one lunch and the freedom students have to be with their people and make decisions that build maturity for them,” Clement said.
For Clement, students are the driving factor in his passion for education, and ultimately what made him want to take the step further as associate principal.
