Parents have never been crazy about Roblox as a social platform for their children, but the gaming network has faced a fresh slew of controversies and legal trouble in the latter half of 2025.
Roblox is an online forum that children can reach from the web or an app on their mobile devices to chat with friends and play a large variety of games together, ranging from thought-provoking story games to “Steal a Brainrot”.
Dolman Law Group, a personal injury and civil litigation firm based out of Florida, has filed at least six lawsuits in July and August alone regarding predatory activity on the app and Roblox’s failure to protect children from it.
One such lawsuit alleges that a pedophile posed as a child to take advantage of a 10-year-old girl from Michigan who was already struggling with mental health problems. It goes on to claim that the predator convinced the child to send explicit photos of herself after sending some of his own.
“What Roblox represents as a safe, appropriate space for children is, in fact, a digital and real-life nightmare for kids,” the legal documents read.
Roblox posted a statement in response to these allegations on Aug. 15 on their website.
“At Roblox, we are constantly innovating safety tools and launching new safeguards,” the statement reads.

“In the past year, Roblox has introduced over 40 new features to protect its youngest users and empower parents and caregivers with greater control, including updated parental controls, stricter defaults for users under 13, and new content maturity labels.”
Stronger parental controls may not be enough, however, when the adult grooming your child is teaching them how to turn their restrictions off.
As was the case of Ethan Dallas, a boy from California who was 12 at the time the alleged grooming took place. Dallas was coerced into sending graphic photos of himself and, after being taught how to turn his parental controls off, moved his conversations with the predator to the online chatting app Discord.
Ethan’s mother, Rebecca Dallas, filed a lawsuit against Roblox and Discord in September 2025 after her son took his own life in April 2024.
“Tragically, Ethan was permanently harmed and haunted by these experiences, and he died by suicide at the age of 15,” the lawsuit states.
The suit also asserts that while Roblox claims to require permission from a parent or guardian to sign up, nothing is truly stopping a child from creating an account of their own volition and playing with others without the knowledge of those who are charged to protect them from harm.
Discord is similarly simple to use, and it doesn’t claim to need parental approval.
The suspect in Dallas’ case was arrested in Florida on charges of sexual exploitation after Dallas’ death.
In the wake of these allegations, Roblox has set up a system where, by linking an account on their own device to their child’s, a parent can see and manage their children’s activity and connections on the platform.
Additionally, kids under the age of 13 need parent permission to use features like chat in-game and cannot message others outside of an experience.
