Five years, two months, and ten days. That is how long Kenna Rowan had to live with the thought that she might’ve killed her own boyfriend. The film “Reminders of Him” is a romance drama that tells a story about mistakes, second chances, and hope that stays with the viewers. 

   The 2026 film,  directed by Vanessa Caswill and written by Colleen Hoover, tells a story of Kenna Rowan (played by Maika Monroe), a 26-year-old who was involved in a tragic car accident with her boyfriend, Scotty Landry (played by Rudy Pankow). Kenna and Scotty meet at a grocery store and are together for six months before Scotty dies on his birthday as a result of the crash. Kenna is found guilty for leaving Scotty in the car by himself after they crashed, which leads to her serving five years in prison while pregnant. She is forced to give birth in jail and not allowed to see her child until her release.

   Once Kenna returns to her hometown where everything happened, she eventually meets Scotty’s old best friend Ledger Ward (played by Tyriq Withers). They have never met before, but spark a cautious but meaningful connection. 

   “Reminders of Him” is a slow-paced, thoughtful experience rather than action-driven. The film uses simple settings and slower pacing to focus on Kenna’s personal struggles, making the story feel more realistic and relatable. The film also uses soft lighting and a calm soundtrack to create a reflective and serious tone that supports the story. These choices emphasize Kenna’s isolation and her emotional journey, making the audience focus on her challenges and growth.

   Kenna is kind and determined to change her life, even when others doubt her, while Ledger shows compassion and understanding toward her situation. Much of the film focuses mostly on quiet conversations and heartfelt moments instead of large events, which make the audience focus on the characters’ feelings and struggles rather than surprises and dramatic events.

   Overall, “Reminders of Him” is an engaging and heartfelt film. While some parts of the story may feel predictable, the strong performances, relatable characters, and thoughtful storytelling make it worth watching. The film is a good choice for viewers who enjoy character-driven dramas and stories about personal growth, forgiveness, and second chances.
