“Scream 7” (2026) is the latest movie in the Scream franchise, a series about highlighting and breaking the stereotypes of horror movies. While the movie is set up to be a finale to the long-running saga, there have been ideas about an eighth being made.
“Scream 7” is a gory movie, there’s no doubt about that. The first couple of kills are brutal, and there’s no way to know what characters are safe. Typically, viewers might assume the main characters in a horror movie are safe, but not in the Scream franchise. It did simmer down near the end, getting less brutal compared to the first couple of kills.
There are multiple characters who get fatal injuries, and then just kept on getting back up somehow. For example, a character is suffocated and stabbed, leading the audience to assume he should’ve bled out but he’s revealed to be alive during the climax.
The plot was predictable, which can make for a more boring experience for the viewer. There is a red herring killer that just wastes runtime due to his irrelevance. The killer reveal, which is usually the main point of these movies, was extremely mediocre and had no emotional impact.
The main character, Tatum, was frustratingly stupid when it came to dealing with the killers. For example, she did not check if the killer she shot was dead before walking away, leading to her getting attacked once again.
My personal favorite part of the movie was the fight choreography. It was surprisingly good, and it never had me looking away. The characters actually fight back, with few immediate deaths. It was exciting, had no stops, and had characters understanding that they can’t win against an armed killer when they have no fighting experience.
Overall, “Scream 7” is a good horror movie, but it isn’t the best movie if you’re looking for an interesting plot. It’s more of a turn your brain off kind of movie. The kills are brutal and the fights are fun, so if you’re just looking for that, “Scream 7” is good for you.
